This house is the villa on the right as you pass through the narrow passage between walls to come out on the terrace at the top of the cliff.
It was laid out as pleasure gardens and opened in May 1844, by a Mr. John Skelton, and became a favourite summer resort. Failing to obtain a spirit license it was only open a year or two.

Many of these died of inanition; some were closed by the discretion of the licensing magistrates; others were abolished to make improvements; and perhaps a few were shut at the instigation of the teetotalers.
