Bristol’s Lost Pubs
Lamb & Anchor Milk Street
When the door numbers in Milk street ran consecutively the Lamb & Anchor was at No.61. Around 1877-78 the system of alternate numbering was introduced, and the Lamb & Anchor became No.34. From around 1901 onwards the pub was at Nos. 32 and 34.

On the corner with Leek Lane the original small corner pub was replaced around 1901 with a huge red and yellow brick building which in turn was pulled down in 1959 during the post war changes to the Broadmead shopping area.
The following information was kindly provided by Rosemary Cave: There are several plans of the new pub held at the Bristol Records Office including a ‘proposed conversion of two cottages at Leek Lane Bristol into brewery for Mr Chas Winstone “Lamb and Anchor” Milk Street Bristol’ dated, Alfred J Saise AMIC, Dec 27 1900, Fishponds. The new brewery can be seen in this picture just to the left of the pub in Leek Lane. During the rebuilding of the Lamb & Anchor Mr Winstone and his family were living in Brunswick Square. Charles Winstone jnr. was Rosemary’s Great Uncle.
