In the Matter of Proceedings for Liquidation by Arrangement or Composition with Creditors, instituted by Robert Caines, late of Potters’ Arms, Brougham street, in the parish of Saint Philip and Jacob, but now of the Wellington Arms, Wellington-road, in the parish of Saint Paul, both in the city and county of Bristol, Beer Retailer.

Notice is hereby given, that a First General Meeting of the creditors of the above-named person has been summoned to be held at the offices of Mr. S. P. Parker, Saint Nicholas-chambers, Nicholas-street, Bristol, on the 15th day of May, 1875, at eleven o’clock in the forenoon precisely.–Dated this 5th day of May, 1875.

George Bayley took over the tenancy of the Victoria from his brother Edward on the 9th May 1945, the annual rent was £40, George also paid £140 for fixtures and fittings, and £9.10.0. owed to the brewery by his brother for dilapidations. Based on improvements carried out, the rent was increased to £55 per annum in September 1953. The landlord was The Bristol United Breweries Limited.

Bristol Records Office

On the corner of Victoria Road and Haberfield Street this site is now under the Haberfield multi-storey car park. This picture was taken in 1906, not long after the building which was sixteenth century in origin was converted into two houses, just after the second world war it stood derelict and was demolished in the early 1950s. Ellsbridge Passage to the right of the building led through to Ellbroad Street.
