Pictured here in the 1930s the Old Castle was Destroyed by bombs during the war. The tiles on the front of the building would probably have been green in colour, once a common feature on Bristol pubs. Before the war the Old Castle was very popular with weekend shoppers from South Wales.

From the annals of Bristol by John Latimer:
The ‘Old Castle’ tavern, one of the oldest buildings in Castle Street, and chiefly constructed of wood, was destroyed by fire on the night of the 6th September 1843. The occupier, Mr. Thomas Worthington, who was an invalid, perished in the flames, and one of his relatives afterwards died from the effects of her injuries.
