In 1911, brewers Samuel Allsopp & Sons of Burton-on-Trent took the Black Horse on a twenty one year lease from owner William Higgs of Keynsham, the lease was for the pub with coal house at the rear and use of the hauling way and yard, the annual rent was £112 – 10s
